Welcome
Friends of the River Frome (FRF) is a local charitable group working to promote the river, especially in central Frome.
We are doing practical things so that the river is seen as an asset to the town and people are encouraged to speak about the river as 'our river'. We are working towards a clean, green linear park, which will benefit cyclists, anglers, walkers, canoists, and in fact everyone who comes into the town. We need all the support - practical and moral - we can get.
Luckily, there are many groups whose duty it is, in one way or another, to care for the river. For, example, Environment Agency, Town Council, Mendip District Council, water undertakings, riparian owners, wildlife conservation trusts, and voluntary conservators. But many people are, understandably, not sure where the various responsibilities and duties towards the river lie in practice. This is where the Friends of the River Frome can help. We already know that there is a great deal of goodwill and preparedness to cooperate among these various groups and in the population as a whole. FRF has formed to be a helpful catalyst to turn awareness and cooperation into tangible, visible results. We want to see the river function as a corridor for wildlife, an urban open space and a recreational area - these are not incompatible.
We are hoping to have the backing of everyone who could offer moral support, whether by simply joining and receiving news of river-based activities, or by practical help and the exchange of ideas.
